U+ Volunteer Connect Networking Session (Summer Opportunities)

On April 24, 2026, U+ hosted our Volunteer Connect Networking Session, bringing together over 10 attendees from different communities to learn more about volunteer opportunities, summer job roles, and ways to get involved with U+.

Participants joined from a wide range of cities, including Richmond Hill, Newmarket, Vaughan, Mississauga, Toronto, and Ottawa. This strong turnout showed that interest in U+ opportunities continues to grow beyond York Region, reaching youth and community members across Ontario and even beyond.

The session included a mixed group of participants. Some attendees were already current volunteers, while others were not yet volunteers and joined to explore future opportunities. This created a welcoming environment where participants could ask questions, learn about available roles, and better understand how they can contribute to U+ programs.

During the session, attendees asked several thoughtful questions about both volunteering and summer job opportunities. Many were interested in whether summer jobs are in-person, whether there are Toronto-based roles, and if volunteering is required before applying. The team clarified that summer jobs are currently in-person and located in Richmond Hill and Markham, with no Toronto-based positions available at this time. It was also shared that volunteering is not required before applying for summer jobs, although applicants with 120+ volunteer hours (alumni from Volunteer Connect program) may be prioritized.

At the session, all participants were paying attention to each and every slide and mainly focused on the slide where we mentioned the summer job, volunteer opportunities and HS co-op positions. They seemed very interested at the time. Each person who attended had an idea of what opportunity they wanted when we asked them about it. They sounded very enthusiastic and seemed like they would all apply to the positions they said they would.

1. Are hybrid opportunities available? Yes, hybrid options may be available for some roles depending on the position. Since hybrid details may not appear directly on the application form, applicants should confirm with the team for more information.

2. Can I volunteer in digital marketing instead of applying for a paid position? Yes, U+ offers volunteer opportunities in digital marketing. This allows volunteers to gain experience, build new skills, and support community programs without applying for a paid role.

3. Do volunteers need previous experience for their roles? No, previous experience is not required for every role. Volunteers receive asynchronous training modules and can also reach out to their supervisor for extra support when needed.

Overall, the U+ Volunteer Connect Networking Session was a successful opportunity to connect with new and current volunteers, answer important questions, and introduce participants to the many ways they can get involved with U+.
