I had a really positive time participating in the Leaders of Tomorrow program as a leader. I originally signed up to gain more experience working with kids before summer camp started and found myself having a lot of fun leading and guiding the students through our activities. It made me happy to see our students learning how to express themselves and become more confident speaking in front of their peers within our 90 minute sessions. In turn, this made me feel more confident in being able to lead a class of children and really helped me prepare for the upcoming summer camp season.
A tip that I have for those who want to get involved with LoT is to be aware that you need to take charge of the activities because the kids may be shy or just not good at self-regulating, meaning that you have to keep them on track and encourage them to be involved. A willingness to interact with the kids and loosen up so that they can follow your lead as their role model will be important to have as well. It may be a bit difficult at first but it is really rewarding to see the kids having fun and coming out of their shells so I encourage anyone with even a little bit of interest in to take the leap and challenge yourself, even if you don't have experience working with kids!
