Fit Check!  - March 29, 2026

Welcome back Gaveliers!

This week’s meeting theme was Fashion and Brands. We kicked off the session with jokes and riddles from our two Jokemasters, which brought lots of energy and laughter to the room. Our Grammarian then introduced the Word of the Day: “outfits,” which fit the theme perfectly and was a great way to get everyone thinking about fashion right from the start.

Our Small Talkers began the discussion by sharing some interesting background on the history of clothing. They explained how Neanderthals were among the first to make clothes from animal fur and how clothing gradually evolved over time. They also talked about how fashion has changed through the years and the wide range of materials used in clothing today, showing how something as everyday as what we wear has a long and fascinating history.

Our Speakers then explored fashion from a more modern perspective. One Speaker discussed some of the world’s most popular brands, including Louis Vuitton, Chanel, and Nike. They explained how these brands have shaped fashion trends today, why many of their products are so expensive, and what each brand is best known for. Our second Speaker focused on how different outfits and styles are suited for different occasions. They also shared the idea that the way people view you can often be influenced by how you present yourself through your clothing, which led to a thoughtful discussion about first impressions and personal style.

During Table Topics, our Gaveliers answered a variety of insightful and engaging questions that helped everyone get to know one another better. Some of the questions included: What is your favourite clothing brand? What is an overrated clothing brand? What is your favourite clothing style? What kind of clothing do you own the most? These questions sparked fun, honest, and sometimes surprising answers, and it was great to see everyone share their opinions and personal tastes.

Unfortunately, this was also our last session of the January to March term. While we will definitely miss the Gaveliers who will not be returning, we are excited that many familiar faces will be joining us again for the April to June term. Over the past few months, it has been wonderful to watch their confidence, speaking skills, and participation grow, and I look forward to seeing how much more they will accomplish in the spring.

Our meetings take place on Sundays from 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM, and I look forward to seeing both new and familiar faces in the future.

Stay tuned for updates about our U+ Gavel Club, and we are excited to see our Gaveliers, both new and returning, in the Spring term!
