Why can’t March Break be longer? - March 29, 2026

Welcome back Gaveliers!

This week’s meeting focused on March Break Activities, where everyone had the chance to share how they spent their break. The leaders of the meeting were Nora and Lynn, and our Word of the Day was “March Break”. We kicked off the session with jokes, playful word games, and riddles, which set a fun and energetic tone right from the start.

Our Small Talkers shared a variety of March Break experiences. One Gavelier said they spent most of the break resting, but also enjoyed going on a hike with their family by a river. Another shared that they attended a March Break camp, made a new friend, and made homemade ice cream! It was nice to hear how everyone used the week in different ways, whether that meant relaxing at home or trying something new.

Our Speaker also talked about attending a March Break camp, but with a very different experience. They shared that they did not have as much fun because the class was very rowdy. Even so, they still found ways to enjoy their break by playing games and sleeping in. Their speech showed that even when plans do not go perfectly, there can still be good moments to appreciate.

Since we did not have a Table Topics Master this week, we used that time to invite more Gaveliers to talk about their March Break. This gave everyone who had not spoken yet a chance to join in. One member shared that they travelled to Curaçao, while another went to a soccer camp. Even though everyone’s breaks looked a little different, one thing was clear: most of our Gaveliers used the week to rest, recharge, and prepare for the return to school.

We also had a Quizmaster during the session. In Gavel Club, the Quizmaster helps test members’ listening and attention by asking questions about what was shared during the meeting. This week’s questions included things like, “Who made a joke about a pickle?” and “Who met a new friend over March Break?” This was one of our first times trying the Quizmaster role with the 8-12 age group, and it was a huge success. The Gaveliers were engaged, attentive, and excited to participate.

Unfortunately, this was also our last session of the January to March term. While we will definitely miss the Gaveliers who will not be returning, we are excited that many familiar faces will be joining us again for the April to June term. Over the past few months, it has been wonderful to watch their confidence, speaking skills, and participation grow, and I look forward to seeing how much more they will accomplish in the spring.

Our meetings take place on Sundays from 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM, and I look forward to seeing both new and familiar faces in the future.
